When the giver of the criticism starts trying to show their superiority instead of offering helpful suggestions. You'll know the spot of too far when you feel it.

Unfortunately, the recipient is ususally in a better place to judge the criticism. It's gone too far when they are uncompfortable.

The giver has really gone too far when they are uncomfortable.

Maybe the person you gave it to didn't want to hear it. Esp. when it's all negative. I'm that way sometimes.
