Our government in relation to those of other nations is pretty well structured in terms of giving people an accessible venue to shape public policy through representation. As our government is currently oriented, each branch is empowered with the ability to prevent another branch from overreaching its bounds.
As good as our government is in theory, its current operation has been mishandled by the greed of our representatives who are more concerned about the objectives of special interests and not enough about the aims of the citizenry they are there to serve. Furthermore, the fear that arose after 9/11 has emasculated the judicial and legislative branches of government to where they are no longer exercising their right to check the President’s power.
A government can be built perfectly and can be exactly balanced, but the people in it are seldom perfect, hence you will have what is transpiring today. With that said, I cannot think of a better alternative to what we have now.
The cure for what ails us, ultimately is for our citizens to take a greater interest in governmental affairs. Citizens are ultimately the watchdogs that thwart government corruption and deter unchecked power from being amassed in any sector of government.

I think that people will draw parallels to modern corporations in saying "It's neither good nor bad." The question is does it fully represent the public best interests above all else? I would argue no... it does not.
It seems very apparent that the system we believe to be righteous and good was somewhat hijacked early in the 20th century and is now serving a machine to better the interests of a select few than the majority. Sure we now have civil rights, but allot of the problems pertaining to balancing of wealth and power most certainly still exist (if not getting worse) and the control or ability to fix these issues has further been taken from the people. Corporations now run without as many rules and regulations, our lives dictated by money and not the common good of man.
People no longer remember that citizens used to be considered sovereign entities via our constitution.

I think that our government has lied and manipulated the American people and it's Veterans whom VOLUNTEER to serve this country willing to pay the ultimate price if needed which in my opinion are what True Americans are that make this country the greatest in this world. I am proud of these young Americans for I am also a veteran and proud to be an American. As far as the government which is divided in my opinion, has lost touch with its' people and no longer has the sense of reality of what we American people need and no longer seems to lead us in the right direction or what's important to us because all they do is accuse each other over their inabilities and are self indulged in their own self interest which in my opinion shows how incompetent they are forgetting that young Americans are dying everyday for what they believe in. It's a shame that our soldiers are fighting a war that was not justified by any means and yet you try to sell your reasoning for this atrocity that is being payed for by bloodshed which doesn't stop the bickering among the politicians who seem to think that what they think is their job is more important than what that American who has payed the ultimate price is secondary. I was disappointed when I returned from the military over 20 years ago; now I simply despise what they are doing and don't see how they can live with themselves much less call themselves Americans.

Government is Stable and very very progressive in all respects. It's a good Government. If you like to balance it First of all put the credit what Govt has done for us and on debit side put what are the benefits you have not received or your suggestions and operational cost .Now run the balance sheet- there is a assets from the Govt and liquidity.Don't consider the expenses- cause the Government is running for Peoples not for a one or few peoples. It's not meant for profit- it's an organization which run the Government. And every 4 years period we choose them to manage the Government.

Hehe, good or bad? Well it is not as quite a black and white answer that I can give; however, I can tell you since I am currently living and have lived most of my adult life as an American overseas, it is certainly better than any other of the countries I have been to in Europe, the Middle East, or Asia.
Do I feel good about the partisanship, the politically irresponsible blogosphere and press, or the role of polls and big money on both sides? No.
We could be a lot worse off, though. We could be in Turkmenistan, Eritrea, Sudan, or North Korea.

I think that our government is terrible. It is run by wealthy people who want to keep the status quo. An election every four years is hardly what I would call a democracy. The spending on war is atrocious while vulnerable populations are allowed to live in third world poverty.

Which level of it? There is federal, state, and local.
I think the federal government is the worst, state is a little bit better and local is the best.
