Well my situation is this,.....I am 19 years old and I am 6 weeks pregnant. I am going to be a single parent...I don't really have any help. To receive WIC it states that when your family size is "1" you can't make more than $18,000 something dollars a year. I make $24,000,...but it all goes to bills,..and with a child on the way that isin't much money. Does anyone know if you can still get WIC and be over the amount,...or if there is any other programs that can help financialy? Or with food?

honey i am in pretty much the same boat as you!!! it is such b.s.!!! i would have a family size of 3 (me boyfriend & baby) we make $6.00 an hour too much...if i say that the family is just 2 (baby & i) i make $0.26 too much an hour...let me ask you what is that gonna get me??? not even a can of pureed baby food... you right now are technically a family of 2, but like u mentioned you still make too much to get any thing...i dont know what state you live in, but that might matter someway as to what aide you can recieve...at least call wic, and see if they have any resources that could help you. if you find anything out please let me know...i need the help too...funny how they are willing to help people that do nothing to better themselves, but when you need just a little push to get you going, no one is there to help...

by the way congratulations on your baby!!!

I don't know where you live, but find out what programs your county has.

For example, I live in LA, and was laid off two weeks before my son was born. I got disability (I just answered your other question about maternity leave). But was left without insurance and was broke. I didn't qualify for WIC or MediCal, but I contacted a program called "First 5 LA" and they gave me great help. LA County had a program for people with a little higher income and it cost me $6 a month for Blue Shield insurance.

Call the hospital you use and ask them to give you phone numbers of local resources. Find local mom's groups (try http://www.momsclub.org/ and look up your local chapter). These groups have all been there and will be really helpful. Plus once you have the baby you'll have friends & support. The members of such groups generally swap & share gear and clothes once their kids have outgrown them.

You'll be shocked by how much people will reach out to you and offer help. Check craigslist.org for free/cheap baby gear. I posted an ad because I couldn't afford a crib and someone gave me a really nice one.

Good luck to you!

The income guidelines are very strict on wic and public aid you are over the poverty level by a mile. Your best move would be to contact a bill consolidation company so they can compress your bills to one payment and increase your cash flow for the necessisities in your life. You can contact some local churches to. They are usually more flexible about income than the government. Hope this helps.

No WIC will not let you be over the amount. They didn't with me. Try going to the Medicaid office and talking to someone about food stamps. I know it sounds bad, but it is out there for those that need it and with a little one on the way, you need it.

No I was on WIC they kicked me off cause my husband made just over what the max is for them although we barely had money it felt like, they don't look at how much goes on bills cause I thought they would understand but all they said was sorry we cant give it to you anymore, Sorry to say I know it sucks.

If you are eligible for Medicaid and Food Stamps (check with the Division of Family Services), then you will automatically be eligible for WIC regardless of your imcome status.

I would suggest talking to the WIC people again. Let them know your bills and income. They might look at it differently if they see where all that money is going. (where do you work)(I want your job)
