A fact is something you know to be true because the result is the same every time. For example, fire hurts when touched too long and will ignite certain materials quicker than others. Also, what happened to you in the past is fact because it did happen.

Fact= proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Example.... Smoking causes cancer.
The problem arises sometimes when you attempt to use facts with people that believe that something someone told them, that, they had seen on TV is a fact. These are the people you can't reach through reason. DO NOT ATTEMPT to tell them anything as you will be wrong. These people should not be listened to either, smile nod and walk away. Unless you just wanna mess with their heads, then go nuts.

A fact is something which can be proved to be true, like I'm sitting at the computer this very moment answering your question. That's a fact!
