The word "Liberals" is not an insult in and of itself. It is actually quite apt for the Democrats, atleast, for the most part. It is quite possible to have a conservative or moderate Democrat but a majority of them are liberal thus giving the word "Liberals" the misnomer meaning Democrat.
The origin of the word comes from the govermental spectrum shown below.
Liberal ------ Moderate ------ Conservative
As seen you can see that the liberals are on the 'left wing' of the spectrum, so they are also known as "left wingers"
Also, concerning the thumbnail (image 2) it is quite easy to just photoshop an image together and have it tell no truth. The fact of that incident is that it was an accident and person who was shot forgave Vice President Cheney.
As for the DUI given to Bush it is quite easy to point out our faults when we were younger and foolish. I doubt that anyone has had a truly faultless youth and there is no reason to vote against, or insult, a man for his past digression that is so long ago and has no reflection on the man today.

Liberals are called this because they allowed some government intervention as far as the economy went whereas conservative which means to leave alone favored a more laissez-faire approach to the ecomony

Because you are not going along with the brood of folks who have learned to live below the radar and believe everyone is good if they are in the same social class as you.
I don't think being a liberal (or an independent) is that bad.

Liberal is a good word. The word means " All to all ". Why should you have to wait for something owed to you. We beleive you can have what you need. Drunk driving is all you can have,we welcome that or drugs or whatever you want, but guns are bad. so I'm sorry to say but I don't think your a liberal.

"Liberal" is being used to describe anyone who doesn't walk in lockstep this this administration. It's the "you're either with us or against us" mentality.
"If Bush is a conservative and you don't agree with him, you must be a liberal" is the same as "if Hitler was a Christian and you don't agree with him, you must not be a Christian". Don't expect those who blindly follow to see anything beyond their leader.

It's people like the second answer who call you a liberal. they try to categorize you with no knowledge of you. Notice that they assume your opinion on Clinton when you said nothing about him.

But I'm sure you supported the President who had a history of sexual harassment and a charge of rape that was thrown out when he was a teen and who took advantage of an intern in the Oval Office, right? See...that's a liberal....somebody with selective memory who can't see all of the truth.
