I'm an old headbanger,so I understand your question.
First of all....quit taking the name "headbanger" as an insult! Headbangers were (and still are!) some of the most passionate practitioners of a hardcore lifestyle!
Anybody who takes part in a lifestyle that embodies or portrays a rough attitude will get f@#ked with! They are being tested by their "peers".When you present yourself as a "wild-child" you can be sure that someone else will come around to knock you down,if only to prove his own bad-@ss-itutde!
Truth is...there are "posers" in any crowd. Those are the ones that get singled out and abused the most.Even by their own! They get chewed up even worse when an outside group finds out that they aren't viewed as "real" by their own crowd!

I'm a big punk rock fan, but I don't dress like I want to be noticed for my music style. Many people are intimidated of facial piercings and "misfits" logo's. I mean, come on. I've seen so many people try so hard to be different but they end up looking just like the rest of the "punks"~~ Black hair, nose ring, big vest with band patches all over. But everyone gets picked on. Not just punks. True punks expect it and embrace it.

Punk is not a fashion statement - it's a way of life.

Because they're different. I don't think headbangers and punks are the same. At least they weren't in my day. Headbangers listen to hard rock, punks, well, to punk. It's unfortunate really. You shouldn't be picked on because of the type of music you listen to.

they get picked on because people don't under stand individualism. take rap for example, nearly every rap 'artist' claims to be a gangster or a pimp or some other gang related names. i personally listen to purely metal off-shoots. another example is kids who listen to rap are starting to dress like rockers and that's just wrong. only one kid Ive ever meet has been a self-profest Satanist. basically society doesn't yet except punks.

The odd fashions, the loud, blanging music, the snarling surly attitude, the dressing in black.

People just don't understand.

I thought "headbangers" was a term for metalheads.

When i was in school there was a kind of war between the punkers aka the 'heshers', and the preps aka the 'trendys'. the heshers hated the trendys for being so trendy and following trends just to be cool they were like sheep following a heard and they hated that

when someone wears a mohawk, studs every orifice, lives in leather and wears a dog collar publicly i think somehow they may be asking for it....yea ok its individual expression but so is yelling fire in a crowded theater and it brings consequences in a politically correct society.

Because people are afraid of people who are different. There is no reason to fear them or treat them different

punx are not people who conform...that is the whole punk thing. they do not dress according to how their friends like, such as the majority of the rap/hiphop culture.
