if you cant do the first couple you are in big trouble. the rest of the year. Just remember that you have to get the variable by it self and any operation you do to one side you must do to the other. So for one you get

2(x+1) = 10 divide both sides by 2
x+1 = 5 subract 1 from both sides
x = 4

the bottom ones need to be simplified

Do the same operation(add subtract, multiply or divide) on both sides of the equation to get the form

variable = number

1. 2(x+1) = 10
x + 1 = 5 {divide by 2}
x = 4 {subtract 1}

You could have applied the distributive rule first
2x + 2 = 10 {distribute the 2 over the x and the 1}
2x = 8 {subtract 2}
x = 4 {divide by 2}

Use the same approach on the following

2. 3(2x+8) = 30

3. 5(5x-1) = 20

4. 4(4y+1) = 36

5. 9(2y-10) = 0

6. 7(5y-2) = 56

7. 2(k+2) + 6 = 21

8. 4(2w+1) - 3 = 17

9. 3(3p+3) + 3p = -3

10. 5(q+3) + 2(2q-5) = 23

11. 5(3d+2) + 3(1-2d) = 13
15d + 10 + 3 - 6d = 13 {distribute - watch the sign}
9d + 13 = 13 {collect like terms}
9d = 0 {subtract 13}
d = 0 {divide by 9 - but you know that if 9d = 0 then d must be zero}

Time permitting, it is a good idea to check the answer in the original equation

5(3d+2) + 3(1-2d) = 13
5(3(0) + 2) + 3(1 - 2(0) = 13
5(2) + 3(1) = 13
10 + 3 = 13
13 = 13

I will show one example on what to do on these problems and that is it.

1.2(x+1)=10

Distributive property:
2x+2=10

Subtract 2 from both sides:
2x=8

Divide 2 from both sides:
2/2x=8/2
x=4

Check:
2(4+1)=10
2(5)=10
10=10

Follow that example and apply it to the rest of the problems. If you need more help, either have your teacher explain this to you, get a tutor, and have a fellow student explain how to do this. I hope this helps and good luck with the rest of the problems.

I'll do the first one, they're all done in the same way so you should be able to follow and do the rest:

2(x+1)=10

first divide both sides of the equation by 2

x+1=5

now subtract 1 from both sides

x=4

basically just use plain algebra so for number 1 2(x+1) = 10 divide both sides by 2 to get x+1=5 then subtract 1 on both sides to get x=4 hence your answer follow the same steps in doing the rest

to do # 1, u use the distributive property and get 2x + 2 = 10. then you subtract 2 from 2 and 10 and get 2x = 8. then you divide 2x and 8 by 2 and get x = 4. now u can do the rest by yourself
