They are pretty good, I wouldn't suggest anything smaller than 2gb, that will hold about 500 tunes which should keep him busy for a while. Make sure your computer is compatible with the software, needs to be running on XP sp2 ideally. I had some glitches installing the software for one earlier today, but that may have had something to do with the actual iPod being faulty, once I had exchanged that and sworn a bit more I got it working pretty well by this evening.
My 10 year old whose birthday I got it for today is having no problems working it, so it's user friendly technology.

Yes they are well cool!! I would suggest you get him a 4gb. It's only $50 more than the 2gb and you get twice the amount of space. But if you decide to get an 8gb nano you might as well go for the 30gb iPod Video, 5th generation. It costs exactly the same but you get so much more w/the video than an 8gb nano. that's a pure rip-off really. I have the 30gb 5th generation iPod Video, and it works fantastically!!!
Great buy!!!!

well a 2gb will let him get 500 songs on the ipod so it depends how much music he has and how easy you think he will fill it. got a nano last year thinking i mihgt not use it and it comes with me everywhere. they look good and are really solid little pieces of technology. best to get the 4gb because then if he needs it he has more storage. i thought i would never fill mine but i'm getting very close. he'll love it. if you go into any apple store and talk to them about it they'll be more then happy to help..

happy birthday son!

They are wonderful. I have both nano and video. It is not only good for listening to music. I have just discovered Podcasts and cannot get enough of them. They are very educational. You can get them for free from Apple web store through iTunes. There are for example excellent lectures on astronomy, music, psychology from (for example) Scientific America. So it is not only about fun.

By decent earphones - the ones by Apple are just a bit less than OK. And their white colour is a give-away - may make your son more vunerable to muggers.

There is this excellent book: "iPod and iTunes - Quick steps" by E. Van Buskirk & J. Alderman which helps you to make the best out of your iPod. I found a copy in my local Idea Store.

i have one, i think its great! 4gb is the best. the only problem i would say is that the battery runs out fast... i'm not sure if that is just for the ipod video though. other than that, when i got mine i was surprised by how great quality it was. :) I'M sure your son will enjoy and ipod nano.

Ipods are pretty good. I think most teens have it now. I think a 4gb is probably more expensive, but if your son is a very musicy person and needs a lot of place, get him the 4gb. However, 2gb is enough for me.

They're carp! Get a decent MP3 player, or even better, a mobile 'phone that can take an external memory card!

ipods are great! your son would probably be happy with just a mini. but if you wanna go for the best one then get him the video one.
