9a^2 + 16 a^2 = 25a^2

The square root of 25 is 5 and the square root of a^2 is a so....
the answer is 5a

Let y = sqrt(9a^2 + 16a^2 )

Add the two squares and you get:
y = sqrt(25a^2)

So
y = 5a or -5a
