Led Zepplin is probably the most influential rock band of all times. They wrote a few songs that had to do with The Lord of the Rings trilogy The band consisted of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones. They were the best band in the land.

Led Zeppelin is officially the the biggest band in rock"n"roll history. and thats not just my opinion either. i think mtv or vh-1 did a show called 100 biggest bands and Zeppelin was #1 in rock history their runner up was Black Sabbath. but you dont need a show to answer that question. Led Zeppelin::(Jimmy Page-Guitar)(Robert Plant Vocals/harmonica)(John Paul Jones-Bass/Keyboards/mandolin)and the late (John Henry Bonham-probably the most well known/best drummer in rock history. his son Jason Bonham started a band in the mid eighties they were called BONHAM. he also did a tribute album to his father it was called Jason Bonham In The Name Of My Father. excellent cd. he is now drumming with the band Foriener. in england (when led zeppelin were touring) they had to change the band name for a show because Zeppelin was a family name of the queen and they were forbidden to use that name when the did the gig there. so they used another name for that part of the tour. if i remember correctly the went on as the knobs while in her country. when i was 14 and started playing guitar i could have told you anything about Zeppelin. but its been awhile and i cant remember everything but i know that Led Zeppelin is and always will be the best band in rock"n"roll history. at least to me they will be

Formed in 1968 by Jimmy page (guitar), Robert Plant (vocals), John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards), and John Bonham (drums). Pages and Jones were professional session musicians, and had played on countless recordings, mostly seperately but occaisionally together. Plant and Bonham had played together and seperately in several unsuccessful bands in northern Britain, most notably together in Band Of Joy. At the time of Led Zeppelin's formation, Page was the sole remaining member of The Yardbirds, a very influential but commercially undersuccessful band which also had featured Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck as lead guitarists. Page saw Plant singing in a club, liked his vocals and personality, and after getting together and talking one day at Page's home, they decided to put their tastes and talents together and form a band to play out the rest of Page's contractually obligated Yardbirds dates. As Peter Grant was the final manager of The Yardbirds, he by default became the manager of the new, as yet unnamed and unsigned band. Page had recently worked with Jones on sessions for Donovan, and remembering Jones' talents for arranging, recruited him for the new band. Plant brought in Bonham, and the band was complete. Appearing for their first few gigs as The New Yardbirds, they adopted a name suggested during a backstage conversation with Keith Moon and John Entwhistle of The Who: when Moon opined that this new band "will probably go over like a lead balloon", Entwhistle replied, "No, a lead zeppelin!" Page dropped the "a" from lead so it wouldn't be mispronounced "leed", and the legend was born.
Zeppelin was an immediate commercial success, but the critics hated them.

One of the most influential bands in the history of Rock. "Stairway to Heaven" is considered by many as the best song ever. They were notorious for their hotel parties on tour as well as dabbling in withcraft and the occult.
The true originators of Stadium Rock. The were a tremendous band. I truely recommend listening to their music.

Famous for very hightly skilled musicianship guitar solos, drum solos), and esoteric imagery.

Also, famous for wreching hotel rooms, sleeping with groupies, and being the first heavy metal band (along with Deep Purple) They basically turned the volumen up on r and b.

Great lp covers too. Worth trying to get the records, not the cds.

Completely collapsed as a commercial entity with punk.
