If it is knocking that's no good. I would want to know if you have an oil pressure gage to verify oil pressure. possibly you may have another mechanical problem like a lifter or rocker arm or it may be a knocking rod which means if you keep trying to drive it will not last very long. As I was saying if your oil pressure is in fact low it could be caused by a bad oil pump or warn out rod or main bearings, also this would lead to worse problems such as knocking and excessive wear until mechanical failure. My advice if you were automotively skilled would be to tear it down to see how bad it is and decide if it is cost effective to fix. If it has done major damage it would be cheaper to replace it with a used engine or a re manufactured long block. Or have the mechanic do it. The decision would be based on budget and mechanical skills.

Could be the oil pump seezed up, check to see if there is any water in the oil, just pull out the dip stick and see if there are any white deposits on the stick. if there is then the engine is shot, also if it is knocking that is more than likely a spun bearing, but if it is clicking alot and really lound i would say oil pump.
