Well, im sorry to hear you are having such a nasty time of it, there are however lots of different things you can do to help with this. Dysmenorrhoea (painful periods) is very common and a lot of women are troubled by it. The first things that help some women dont include medicines, these are exercise, having a nice warm bath and relaxation techniques. For some but not many women with this problem this does the trick. The next thing to try is simple medicines like paracetamol. The amount you will need to take will depend on your weight, as you are 12. Some 12 year olds are adult size and others arnt, so you would need to see your family doctor for advice. If paracetamol isnt enough there are other medicines, such as Non-steroidal anti inflammatory medicines (Mefanemic acid is a good one). If these are not enough your family doctor may suggest you starting the birth control pill. It wont be for contraception but will help regulate your cycle. You dont need to worry too much about being on this so young, but your doctor will probably need to explain to your mum why you are taking it, and that it is not for contraception (birth control). I guess the take home message is do go and speak to your family doctor, as there is lots you can do to help!

honestly hun, if u are having extreem cramps during ur periods. You should see your OBGYN, you could have something called endometriosis.. They will do a small procedure to see if you have it. It is the main cause for heavy periods.. and that can also cause you to be infertile. Which means you probably can't have children if you wait to long. Just something to look at.

Otherwise.. If that isn't the problem you can try eating a lot of greens about a week to two weeks before ur period, up until your period comes. Excerising before and during your period. Warms baths. Also, there is a new product out.. its in the feminen isle of your stores... it is a heating pad, that doesn't need to be plugged into the wall. u just stick it on to your panties, and u get a warm sensation all day which helps with the period pains..

Hope this helps!

This worked for me. I used to have reallly bad cramps. The kind that makes you double over. What I did was start eating plenty of fruit and vegetables. When my period came the cramps didn't. Try it.

Hot Chocolate, Heating Pad, and Hot Baths, see a pattern?? anything Hot feels really good and relaxes the muscles, these 3 together work really well! You should give it a try, I heard walking helps to, but mine are so painful that walking is the last thing on my mind.

HEAT. I really recommend the Thermacare adhesive heating pads. You can usually get them on the feminine care isle of the drug store. the stick in your underwear and heat that one area of your belly. I LOVE them. Also, keep hydrated with water and exercise. I find that if I walk a lot during my period and drink a bunch of water, I am not as constipated and bloated and my periods are easier to deal with. Good luck

I'm not a girl but it is a proved fact that having sex will get rid of cramps. I was told this by a health teacher and told it worked but I suppose that's only if you're comfortable having sex while on the rag.

Lie quietly with a hot water bottle against your stomach. This is what the school nurse at my junior high used to do for us. Works!

Excersing BEFORE your period starts can sometimes ease the pain. Hot baths, heating pads, and not laying flat can also help.
