Yes you can.
You will have either a 2 wire or 3 wire hook-up depending upon if your T-stat is system powered and requires a common.

You will notice (2) red terminals with a jumper between them. They are typically marked Rc and Rh. As long as the jumper remains, you tie the red wire to one of these and the other wire (typically white) to the terminal marked "w".

Since you did not state whether or not this is a conventional or digital stat, you need to make sure the heat anticipation setting matches your furnace on a cxonventional t-stat and if it is digital and capable of more than one stage of heat and or cooling, ensure that the DIP switches are set correctly.

Along the same lines....if digital, you may have to select type of system....H/W, FHA, etc and you should have the ability to select numerous other options and program modes.

Good luck!

Should not be a problem. The instructions should explain the wiring difference. Heat/cool is more common than just heat, but that should not make a difference.

i don't see why not I have done it before myself. there is a switch that is on the thermastat anyway that makes it realise what it is doing cooling or heating.
