I had just one ferret, and he loves to play with my german shepard mix, but my cousin decided that since she bought a horse that she couldn't take care of her ferret, so she gave me her ferret. Lo and behold she GIVES the horse (barrel racing quarterhorse from great stock with papers and everything) to a fellow known for selling horses to the glue factory because she was afraid of it after having it for nearly two months, and she gets another ferret, which I just found in his pen sitting in my driveway half frozen to death. Her children are lucky that she hasn't grown tired of them. Anyway, to get back to your question, Yes some ferrets are perfectly happy without another ferret, just as long as they have another animal or a person to goof with. But others need that bandit association. It's more like a personality thing.

It depends on two things, the amount of time you are able and willing to spend with the ferret and the personality of the ferret.
Not all ferret love their own kind around. They're a lot like people that way........different strokes, ya know? So that differs from ferret to ferret, most however do appreciate the company, especially if you cannot spend a LOT of time with your ferret every day. The bond between you and the ferret will most likely be a closer one if there is no other ferret around and you spend a bunch of time with it. If you are a busy person however, your ferret will be happier with a buddy.

I know someone who has one female ferret (Smokey) and she if perfectly fine. She's really social, too.
I guess that it depends from ferret to ferret, just like people. Some are more social, and some aren't. As long as you give them plenty of attention, and they don't seem down, I'd say that you're doing fine, and that a second ferret isn't necessary.

i'm going with lowflyer1. i have two but the first one was alone for a year and did fine. i just got another cuz she was cute. some ferrets prefer to be alone so don't worry just spend time with the one you have and let it know it is loved. but if you can get another introduce them slowly it may take weeks for tem to get along so have another cage for the new one. my two are so comical i love them so much they play so rough you'd think they were killing each other but they aren't.

Ive got one ferret but it doesnt want to know me, I think it needs another ferret to keep it company also.

sounds like we both need to get another ferret. You can have mine if you want and that will solve the problem.

A second isn't required, but they are social animals, so will require you to devote a lot of time to it.
They are not a get and forget kind of pet
