(ie: gay, black, women, hispanic?) And why do they seek collective political advantage in a nation where strong individuals are the ones who succeed? I look at the democrats and I don't see a party who really looks out for these groups as much as they just seek their votes.

Good question.

They realise that they are more powerful within a group than outwith.

I find it contemptable too, and the self-pitying whinging that accompanies this process of identification (an obsession with vicimisation) is truly gross.

I have, over the years, followed a policy of despising all single issue groups and their re[presentatives, no matter how apparantly worthy (e.g. the handicapped...or do they refer to themselves as somethng else now?).

They are alll power-seeking scum.

So....are you corraling "all" democrats into this group? I beg to differ, but the Republicans do the same thing as the Democrats do and in the end they wind up in office making big money and forget everyone they made promises to help. Be it Rep's or Dem's. They all should all be corraled together as "sidewinders".
