Cardiff is the capital however long before Cardiff became the capital city of Wales it was a town surrounded by villages of close knit communities including Canton, Splott and Grangetown. The small port at Cardiff dealt only in local trade. Then came the industrial boom. Coal mined in the valleys was carried to the town, and the 'black diamonds' brought wealth and prosperity. By 1913, Cardiff was the greatest coal exporting port in the world, and fine buildings of the law courts, the City Hall and the National Museum of Wales shot up in Cathays Park. Cardiff was declared the capital city of Wales on 21 December 1955.

Although Cardiff is the capital city of Wales it is sited most inconveniently for the rest of the country on the eastern side of the south coast of Wales.
As most of Wales is an area of outstanding natural beauty, full of exquisite mountainous scenery in the middle with fabulous beaches and coast line around the edges, there isn't a decent railway link between North and South Wales within Wales.
There was once a good rail network in Wales and if that had been maintained, today the journey from the North Wales coast and Bangor and Carnarfon to Cardiff and Swansea would probably have been one of the World's most beautiful railway journeys.
Liverpool was never the capital city of North Wales, although because of the mountainous separation of North and South Wales many people in the North support Liverpool City Football Club, and there was even talk of holding the Welsh National Eisteddfod in Liverpool in recent years, but the Welsh Language Society stopped that.
Many people in the North feel isolated from the Welsh National Assembly as most of the funding that the country gets is directed towards the South of Wales and Cardiff has become an affluent city with rising property prices. At the other end of the country not a lot has changed and many areas including Ynys Mon - the Island of Anglesey have some of the most deprived areas in the UK.

Cardiff has been the capital of Wales since 1955.
Caernarfon and Machynlleth both pressed historical claims, Aberystwyth played the cultural and geographical card.
Llandrindod Wells and Swansea were also involved in the fiercely-contested race.
The need for a capital, which Wales had lacked for four centuries following the Act of Union in 1536, was seen as an important focus for the growing feeling of Welsh nationhood.
The tudors were welsh and became kings of england- Henry Tudor so they did not need a seperate capital as London was the capital of england and Wales.
