I am going back to college for my accounting degree. While I am still in School, I think it is a good idea to have a job in accounting related area such as accounts payable, etc. However, everytime I read the ads, all of them require experience. How do I get my experience if no one give me a chance to have experience?

Any company willing to give me a chance?

I am a fast learner.

I see what you mean. I have been handling Accounts Payable for 25 years. I taught myself how to use the programs on my home computer. I use Quickbooks everyday. Most companies, who have all of their accounting ran thru Q.B. cannot afford to risk data that is not correct. A companys financials are not a trial and error type of position. At the least, teach yourself and then you may have to prove you know what to do. Knowing how financials work is the first step....Good luck.

There are entry level positions out there. Try going through a temp agency such as accountemps. They are worldwide and place people with all levels of experience.

Honestly, doing accounts payable does not require any accounting knowledge. It is just data entry.

You really need to KNOW excel. And I mean backwards, forwards and upside down. I would say that 90% of the accounting work I do is using excel, and I have worked in very large companies. Many agencies/companies will not take you if your Excel skills are not excellent.
