Aprons don't seem to be as necessary these days, since we no longer "dress up" in the house. Getting jeans & a T-shirt mussed up is no big deal -- not like those lovely dresses of the '50's! Still wear one when doing the massive Xmas cookie baking, though. All that flour flying around, sticky hands, etc. so I really need it, since I tend to wipe my hands -- on myself! LOL!

When I was growing up in the 50's, my grandmother and some other older women I knew wore aprons when they cooked and sometimes when they cleaned. I always considered an apron "old-fashioned." Mind you, I do wear an apron when I bake bread or do my cookie baking at Christmas, because I have a tendency to get flour everywhere! Otherwise, I simply wear my jeans and tee shirt. If I get that dirty and need to go somewhere, I change.

Some people never wear an apron & only wear old clothing. This day & age lifestyles are less formal. Many younger people are very laissafaire & less structured. Although I am near 50 I do not wear an apron except ocassionally when cooking.

aprons are for cooking in the kitchen so you don't mess up and get food on your clothes you won't be getting food on your clothes while your cleaning so therefore no need to wear one

I don't ware an apron because I'm not my mother. Plus if you get dirty while cleaning your house then your house must be very dirty to begin with.
