Snow is precipitation in the form of crystalline water ice, consisting of a multitude of snowflakes. Since it is composed of small rough particles it is a granular material. It has an open and therefore soft structure, unless packed by external pressure.

Snow is commonly formed when water vapor undergoes deposition high in the atmosphere at a temperature of less than 0°C, and then falls to the ground. Snow is less dense than rain, which means the same amount of moisture will produce a greater volume of snow than it will rain. One rule of thumb is that the water in eight units of snow is equivalent to one unit of rain.

Can't do much about it otherwise so I make it a challenge as to how high I can pile the snow with my snow blower...it gets me out for a while and I do love to "listen" to the winter silence after a a new fall of snow. I like to go stargazing in the winter because the cold air makes the atmosphere so much more stable and the winter constellations seem so much brighter.

Yes, Winter is my favorite season here on the Ranch... and I LOVE the snow. It's such a nice change from the 6 month "Summer" - no rain, and temperatures in the 80s-100s from May through October. We got 2 feet of snow two weeks ago... and they're predicting another 9-12 inches this weekend !!

It snows in the winter if the temperature is below freezing (32 F) so instead of percipitaiting rain, it freezes and turns into snow.

Because in winter we are at the other side of your sun and we on the northern hemisphere get less sunlight. So it gets colder and it snows.
