How long do companies wait before retrying unpaid direct debits?

Specifically T-Mobile insurance.

usually 3 to 5 days.....work in a bank........make sure you have funds in your account....can take dd's three days early or three days late.......when you sign mandate for a dd look closely at the terms and conditions......mobile phone companies are the worst...some of them take your money 5 days before the agreed date

They usually try two times a month and will not stop trying as long as the contract is still in effect. Not to mention the fees they tack onto it.
