i have noticed quite a lot glassfibre stuff coming out from the exhaust of my '93 astra, i have looked at the exhaust and cant see any hole or anything so why is this happening, what needs to be done and what effect will is have as the car seems to still be driving ok..

the glassfibre is part of the make up of your silencer,if its coming out it means the exhaust or part of it is failing,time for a new one I`m afraid !

That can sometimes happen to cheap exhaust silencers , it will not effect the running of the car although it might be a little noisier

It is ( i guarantee ) your cat converter for the following reason`s .
The same thing happened to my car . And
There was a similar question on here last week and the best answer picked was ,the person who said it was the cat converter .
Mine cost around £100 to replace .

you need a new back box.. its the sound muffling wadding thats falling out...and there will be a split or hole, you just can't see it.

your car may rev a little more freely, and sound a bit more throaty... but your MPG will fall thru the floor... get a new one.

New back-box time I'm affraid....

...might set you back all of £30 in the right places. Easy enough to fit

Nice one to Nico i think ! the same thing happened to my car and it was the cat converter mine cost £117. with the v.a.t.

Does it have a glass pack? If not, more than likely catalytic convertor.

your exhaust system seems already bad, it requires repair or replace, you can't see it coz it's inside the mufler system.
