It's a constant "whump, whump, whump" that can be heard from anywhere in the city. It sounds as if it's coming from Mission Bay, South Beach, or Hunter's Point neighborshoods, but its hard to tell. You can hear it all the way in Twin Peaks.

I've gotten a new theory after watching a Discovery Channel special on the Bay Bridge construction. It may be the sound of the pile driver. I do not hear it today but it was very loud on Tuesday. Anyone know if the pile driver was working on Tuesday?

I was going to say, it probably is the pile drivers working on the Bay Bridge Construction. My uncle works supervising the concrete portion of the project. I can tell you that the pile drivers would be working out there every day, unless their machine is broken down.
