For example, PeTa (people for the ethical treatment of animals) has teamed up with Playboy to promote things like meatless hotdogs, not wearing fur etc. They put out advertisments using playboy models promoting thier message. What do you think of this, and what do you think of sex in the media generally?

Too much sex in the media is why we have 14 year old girls wearing bracelets that tell boys if they like to suck d_ _k.
It’s why we now have 14 year olds having babies.
It’s why young boys and girls think its OK practice homosexuality when they are more than likely not.
It’s why Abercrombie & Finch can get away with child porn advertising.
And it’s why PETA called Playboy. No one cares about them but now little boys will be exposed to them when they steel dad’s magazine.
PETA uses the same tactics as the terrorists use and now they are using sex to sell their dribble. Humans are meant to eat animals and wear their fur and skin. Thanks to the flourishment of lust and promotion of sex as a wonderful thing for young people to have they merely are using them as a tool to meet their own agenda. After all Playboy girls are bunnies and have a furry tale. Hypocrites

This society is becoming oversexed in general. People are discovering that sex- whether it turns people on or turns people off-gets attention and often sells. The reason PETA is doing this alliance with Playboy is because they know people will stop in their tracks and take note of them. Especially horny men, who will buy into the whole PETA thing now simply because those horndogs are equating the animal rights movement with sex. And what more effective way for PETA(or anybody for that matter) to further their message?

I've heard some ugly things about PETA (like they're anarchist thugs). Playboy always seemed like a rich boy fun club with girls and drinks and conversation about fast cars and the latest in men's fashions. Sex (and money) in the media is a gimmick that serves to make both men and women feel like failures if they don't have as much success with sex or money as the characters in the films have, and suggest that you will be more successful if you buy their sponsors' products. For example, if your boyfriend is not as handsome as this movie star, then you probably need a new boyfriend, and to get one you should shampoo your hair with Splurt with Conditioner. Awful of them to try to wreck people's lives just so they can make more money, now, isn't it?

As Sarah said, I rather see sex than violence. Why is it immoral to see a movie with people having sex when the vast majority of humanity is doing it or will do it eventually? Why is it ok to watch movies with people killing others? Why is boxing or wrestling better?

I think the problem with sex is that we've been educated to see it as something "forbidden" or even "dirty". Maybe we just need better sexual education. If sex was looked as something "natural" and "normal", would it still have the same impact in marketing?

I think we should take care about the violence issue first. And to have better sexual education.

It isn't nearly as harmful as violence in the media. If anything we should be teaching people more about sexuality earlier on. The US has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the western world. We also have the weakest sex ed system. The Dutch on the other hand have the best sex ed on the planet and the lowest teen pregnancy rate. Food for thought.

Advertising might make some people uncomfortable but that isn't so bad. The US has more obese people than it has fit people. It isn't such a bad thing for fit naked people to be seen as some sort of idea. Sure you'll get a handful of women with eating disorders, which are horrible by the way. But the problem doesn't even come close to what obese people are doing to the US.

I say show more nudity. People are in their natural element in the nude. Killing and shooting and violence are not natural, but we don't seem to have as much a problem with that. Think about how you react to picture of a gun on TV. Now think about how you react to a vagina or a penis. Isn't it shocking that you are more disturbed by the human body than you are by an instrument designed to end life?

Sex is too taboo here in the states and Playboy is an adult magazine. I'd rather see sex on television than the mindless and desensitizing gore and violence.

Sex in the media (used to sell ideas or products that aren't intrinsically 'sexy') is desensitizing our society to sex. This leads to more and more graphic and, uh, unusual sexual messages needed to get a reaction to these ads (i.e. sell your product). In my opinion, it also is leading to a society where people - both men and women - are objectified and not respected because they are viewed on a shallow, sexual level.
