Whenever I see dead animals on the road (for example cats, birds, foxes, rabbits, badgers etc) I am quite distressed. Now don't get me wrong, I am a hardend man, but I am a lover of all life and to see dead and squashed life is upsetting for me, so I wonder how it must make the child feel also.

I think the environmental agency do stuff like that. But I have only seen them puck up badgers and rare animals like that. I agree with you I get soooo upset when I see dead animals it makes me so sad. Where I live there is alwsy loads of dead rabbits and I hate it. I am lucky I have never ran one over but have seen other people and I am the type who turns the car round to see if they're alive. I one had a barn owl fly at my windscreen but flew up at the last minute and caught my arial, I went 5 miles home got a torch as it was pitch black and spent half hour looking for it and I found it sitting bythe road but it flew off after a while I was so relieved.

If such an organisation came into being it might make the crows turn on us.
I feel the clever but unattractive black scavengers are doing a good job and living on a farm I see it all the time.
I once ran over a pigeon and before it stoped flapping its wings, a crow was upon it.
Fifteen minutes later there was only a pile of feathers.
Yesterday I saw a dead heron at the side of the road.
Today it is gone.
Mind you, it could have been faking it, luring gullible crows to a terrible death during these, the years of salmon shortage.
Other crow family members are quite attractive, including the magpie and jay.
The jay is a shy bird and looks as if it has been made from spare parts.
But to answer your question, unless it's a domestic pet in an urban environ, leave it to the crows.

we get alot of dead badgers on the roads, the local council are good, they do come and take them away, as for birds and rabbits, mice etc, the cats, dogs, fox's and other birds tend to get rid of them!
it is a little upsetting to see dead animals on the roads, wherever possible i still drive around them, even when they are dead!

The local coucil is responsible for clearing up dead animals but they have to be of a certain size - ie deer, badgers etc. They wont come out for rabbits or squirrels etc.

Most municipalities' Animal Control departments have a Dead Animal Pick Up division. Or, the highway department of that particular state will usually handle it.
