Poppers are Nitrites. Amyl Nitrite dilate the blood vessels and allow more blood to get to the heart.

They're usually sniffed straight from the bottle and deliver a short, sharp high. Poppers are sold in sex shops, clubs and gay bars.

They are often used by gay men to relax the anal sphincter muscles, or to heighten the intensity of the orgasm.

They are sold as room deodoriser, but I've never known anyone to use them for that purpose.

Poppers aren't physically or psychologically addictive. They are poisonous if swallowed, and will burn skin. They are very dangerous if you are on certain medications or have heart problems. They are also flammable.

Poppers are just a drug that you sniff the odour of, from the bottle. The 'rush' lasts about a minute- it just makes you feel lightheaded and see yellow spots. Things sound alittle strange too. Originally, gay people used them to widen the anus ( I know this doesnt sound very nice so sorry for that) but I dont think your son is doing it for that reason, its probably just because they are not illegal and you can buy them in alot of shops. I saw them in the £1 shop the other day. Dont worry, they are not addictive, its a bit like sniffing a marker pen or something, he is just going through a phase, as I did when I was about 14. Hope this helped. xx

Poppers is the street term for various alkyl nitrites taken for recreational purposes through direct inhalation[1], particularly amyl nitrite, butyl nitrite, isopropyl nitrite and isobutyl nitrite.[2][3] Amyl nitrite has a long history of safe medical use in treating angina[1], as well as an antidote to cyanide poisoning.[4][5] Amyl nitrite and several other alkyl nitrites which are used in over-the-counter products, such as air fresheners and video head cleaners, are often inhaled with the goal of enhancing sexual pleasure.[6] These products have also been part of the club culture from the 1970s disco scene to the 1980s and 1990s rave scene.[7]

Get rid of them. They are used alot in gay sex - can be brought for £5.00 a bottle legally in some shops and are sniffed by kids alot. They cause a banging head rush and increse the heart rate. They can however put too much strain on the heart and they do lead to awful headaches. xx

well it has a use of making you relax. It relaxes the anal glands as well, so that homosexuals can act more comfortably. It of course works for women ,but this is illegal act. Have fun.....

gays, however we used to sniff them at school. they give you an amazing head rush, which is great whilst having an orgasm!

They destroy your brain cells though, and can end up with severe headaches
