What is UEFA?

The Union of European Football Associations, almost always referred to by the acronym UEFA (pronounced [juː'eɪfə] (you-AY-fuh) or [uː'eɪfə] (oo-Ay-fuh) or ['wɛfə]), is the administrative and controlling body for European football. It represents the national football associations of Europe, runs Europe-wide national and club competitions, and controls the prize money, regulations and media rights to those competitions.

It stands for Union of European Futbol Associations. They hold the UEFA Champions League (going on now) and the UEFA Cup, and a lot of other competitions. The final will be on May 23, 2007 in Athens. In the Uefa Champions league, only the elite teams from each league is selected, for e.g. the top four teams in the whole league. The winner of the Champions league is then able to compete in the fifa world club championship, where the winner of the other continents champions leagues compete and the winner is crowned the best club in the world. The Uefa cup is for teams that finish just under the top 3 or 4. In this case, around 5-8. The teams that are entered in the Champions league qualifiers, but do not qualify get to compete in the Uefa cup. Both of these competitions are for the clubs in Europe. Other continents have there own champions leagues. The super cup is a competition between the Uefa cup winners, and the Champions league winners
