As you've no doubt been told, BMW stands for Bavarian Motor Works. The company started out as a airplane engine producing company hence the logo of white on blue. It represents a propeller spinning through "blue skies" and "white clouds" Hope this helped.

BMW stands fro Bavarian Motor Work. Bavarian is a place in Southern Germany i think. about the model numbers. The first one is the Serie, the rest is the size of the engine
i.e. 318 is a series 3 with 1800cc engine
This exclude the convertible ones (Z serie), SUV ones (X serie) and the high-power sport M serie. Hope this help
