I am still working full-time but it is miserable. I cannot seem to get comfortable. Now I have shooting pain in my back and my upper legs have even been going numb... Is this normal? What can I do to help it? I was planning on working until I have the baby but if it keeps up like this I don't know if I will make it... I toss and turn all night trying to get comfortable but still end up waking up sore. It’s especially bad on my left side…

I will also be asking my doc this tomorrow at my appointment...

This sounds like what I had -- a pinched sciatic nerve. The only thing that helped was a TNS device (transcutaneous nerve stimulator).

It vibrates the very top layer of your skin and fools your brain. It is totally safe because the baby can't feel it.

I had sciatica from about 7 months though. If you only have 1-2 weeks to go, maybe you can get by with staying home from work, although, believe me, I know, there is no comfortable position.

Sounds like you're going to be a mom any day now! Try sleeping on the couch the back of the couch will give your back support and put a pillow between your legs put it at your knees so that it is between your ankles too, also put a small pillow or a thick folded towel under your tummy to give it support these should help you get some sleep. You might consider taking your maternity leave now so you can get rested .Labor is usually long and will be the hardest days work you have ever done! Eat light meals because having a really full tummy during labor isn't good either! Has the mucus plug dislodged yet? birth usually occurs within 72 hours after that happens.! Good luck and Congrats!

Baby is running out of room so unfortunately your the one who has to suffer. The numbness could be baby has pinched a nerve, and as far as the back pain, this is normal, sometimes a sign of impending labour. If you have any other cramping or bloody show(pink tinged mucous discharge) or blood go to the hospital ASAP don't wait for your appt. tomorrow. Otherwise sound like normal aches and pains associated with those final days in pregnancy- aw-full isn't it? As far as wok goes if your that uncomfortable, and especially if your not getting any sleep at night I would go off work now. You need to catch up on some sleep now, because you will be sleep deprived enough after baby comes--you need your strength. Good luck and Best wishes to you.

Hey sweetie..I am 39 and half weeks and i also have really bad back pain (your not alone)...it feels like my back is going to break in half. What works for me is if you put really hot water in a water bottle and put in on your back (either when ur laying or sitting down)...Also when u sleep, sleep with a pillow between your legs and stick the hot water bottle behind u where it hurts with another pillow behind the bottle to keep it in place. I can't believe u are still working! Get some rest!

Congratulations on ur new baby, God Bless!

I have nerve damage in my lower back, I know the pain.... and it sucks!!!!!
You might have to stop working... you shouldn't put yourself in the position to be in such pain while carrying your baby. I had to stop working 4 weeks earlier than I wanted to with my last pregnancy because of my back pain, the doctor almost put me on bed rest, but I laughed at him (I have a 2 year old...).
Your 39 weeks, maybe you should think about taking it easy, or maybe lighten your work load? Can you go part-time until you leave???

Try Heat, a heating pad may help ease the pain. I think that if you are in such pain you should quit working, you may just need to put your feet up for the next couple of weeks.
Try to sleep with a pillow between your legs.

Baby is on your nerve......not much you can do. My doctor told me she thought it best to pack it in at work then. Make sure you stay hydrated, it keeps muscles relaxed and less compression. Otherwise, the classes I took showed my husband massage (which was a life saver) and taught relaxation techniques. Also, try a hot shower or bath for a while, or heating pads. Good Luck!

I had miserable back pain, the baby was pressing on my sciatic nerve. My leg used to go numb. I did some very gentle yoga, mostly to relax my hip area. It helped a LOT.
