I'm in college with an undecided major, just wondering what you think is the best field to go into.

Or what field you are going into

civil engineering / environmental engineering are good ones that will not be outsourced. Be good in math or do not consider either. Know that starting engineering salaries are high, but tend to plateau unless you get into management.

Mech eng is not bad either. Very broad. Just don't expect to be designing cars. More likely you'll be supporting manufacturing or else creating parts for larger machines. There's interesting stuff if you get into R&D with an advanced degree. If you're really strong in math some of the most interesting design areas are in ME (or aerospace) in my opinion.

I'm negative on computer engineering, comp sci and elec eng except for the outstandingly brilliant. Just too easy to offshore and there are many people in other countries who are interested in these areas.

Healthcare is always good if you can deal with the stress and people.

Accounting is always good.

Finance is always good. Combined with post grad MBA is better.

Chem eng or chemistry or bioengineering are pretty future proof.

If you're very smart and like writing then undergrad in anything (philosophy is a good one) and go into law.

If you fancy yourself as an entrepreneur then take business and start a company.

I'm not too sure about which field is the best to go into but I chose Design. Computer Graphic Design is my major. It's pretty fun because you get to create so much stuff using computer programs.

Civil engineer, right now and most likely for a very long time is a very high demand field. I work in accounting dept of engineering consultant firm and a new engineer can pretty much write their own ticket.

If you are looking for an industry that will never outphase, or downsize, look into becoming a pharmacist. They never get any rest on the count of so many sick people needing meds, and in most cases get paid very well. I have a friend who is a pharmacist, and he is one of the hardest working people I know, and he does quite well.
