Do people realise that South Africa is not like the rest of Africa?

I mean really, it is the most developed state on the continent. We have stores such as Louis Vuitton, Guess, Gucci, Versace, Lacoste, DKNY. Nearly every second car where i live is a BWM or Mercedes, there are Ferrai, Maserati, Aston Martin, Bentley and Rolls Royce dealerships near where i live! Not to mention: BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, Rover, Porche, Jaguar etc The hobos have cell phones!

so we may have a lot of crime but we deal with it. build high walls, electric fencing, yet having 2 maids and a gardener kinda balances it all out!

Yes and no. Those that have traveled the world of course realize it but, on the other hand those that have not travel most like don't know or care to know as long as it does not effect them. I have learned that most people (not all) are only concerned with things that concern the area in which they lived. How sad. Just think of all the things they miss out on.

I had thought South Africa was different than the others. I was in Uganda (East Africa), for awhile, loved it , but it is a third world country, whereas I think South Africa is more of a tourist place isn't it? But to really answer your question, I'm not sure if most people realize this or not, they may just think of Africa as Africa, period.

Well most people just stereotype Africa in general as impoverished.
