Ya know, I just returned from Paris last weekend and I was treated very respectfully while over there. French citizens were very respectful and friendly. BECAUSE........

I did not dress like an American tourist, I was not loud and obnoxious like an American tourist, and I made every attempt I could to speak basic French to them.

It is no different than when people from other countries visit the US. We expect them to act like us and speak to us in English. At least many people in Paris know how to speak English, we on the other hand don't have the interest in learning other languages. When you are visiting a foriegn country you need to blend in and don't expect them to accomidate us.

Once again, please, don't generalise... As usual I can read many wrong things here in the answers. Some french people hate american people, as some american people hate french people. But those opinions are often based on ignorance and racism.

Many people who say they hate another nation actually don't know anything about this nation... This is just ignorance, and it's a shame.

Some french people should remember what american people did for France in history, and vice versa. American forums often show racism, hate and lies about France, but most of people don't know anything about our country.

I can testify that all french people know that America fought to free Europe from nazis, and are grateful for that. But how many americans know that french troups are fighting today in Afghanistan because of 9/11 ?

Most of french people absolutely not hate America and american people, they consider them as allies, and american tourists are welcome, if they are respectful. Most of french people disagree with Bush government, and that's very different. Don't make a confusion about this.

French people are just really ethnocentric. They believe everything is better if it's French. I've met some French people recently and I don't think that they intentionally mean to come off like they dislike Americans. It just sort of happens.

If you mean French as in from France, I don't know. If you mean francophone (French-speaking), not that I'm aware. I don't hate Americans, and I wouldn't lump all the people of any country together.

no longer from now on than individuals hate the French... From my non-French & non-American attitude i could say French and American custom are fairly comparable. the two are very insular and self-based, and because they're continually so centred on their own custom they have a tendency to renowned little a quantity banal stereotypes with reference to something of the worldwide, utilising their own lack of information as a source of superiority. "i do no longer know something approximately you so as that would desire to propose you by no skill amounted to something!" form of stuff. So jointly as i like France and the u . s . for various reasons, the failings I dislike approximately them are almost a similar.

The reverse seems also to be true. See previous answers.
I always say this: in each country, there are nice people and stupid ones. Only this statement is to be taken into account. Prejudices and misconceptions are too commony used. Ppl using them are not objective and that's really boring...

Nah, they're just proud of their culture. I'm not sure If I can say the same about Marine Lepen and her father though. A bit like the french version of KKK, but more governmental. They don't like Immigrants, they're very close to Africa and the Middle East.

They don't like us because when they sent us the statue of liberty as a gift the Americans in power at that time sent it back because it had ******* features, that's what they taught us in history class in good ole Mississippi.
