I give this book a nine. I read it many years agon in middle school because we had to. I was so moved by the story. I t remains a favourite to this day. It made me realize that war was cruel and unwanted by both sides. That the young Germans fighting the war were just as human as any.
Read it.

I read it in high school b/c I had to, but I loved it. I would definitely recommend it. I would give it probably an 8 or 9. It isn't something I would usually pick, but it will open your mind.

One of the principle works on warfare. It shows both the ugliness and the futility of war. The story is riveting and you won't have any trouble getting through it.

I have never read this book but I do have a video version of it starring, Richard Thomas, that is quite worthwhile.
