is there a system out there that won't cost me an arm and a leg? From what I can tell, it looks like a KSU less system runs about $1,000 per phone. Way too expensive. I have 10 phones with two lines.

Check into a VoIP phone system. The incoming calls are handled on a data line, so you will need high speed internet access, but the phone systems are scalable and reliable. Not to mention, on ours there are ways to track who called and when, forward, local hold, park, voicemail, extensions, intercom and PA all on the same system.

Get bids and play the companies off one another to get the lowest possible price. You know that sales guy that got you your phone lines? Talk to him for a few names of who to try.
