The easiest, surest way is to get a bag of washing soda (Asda/Tesco £00.55), throw the whole bag in, do your hottest wash.with nothing else in. All the gungy grease from the soap will be cleared. You may even be inclined to do it again, its so easy. I do mine once a month. Also, it cleans your drains.....

Funny you ask as I cleaned mine last week.. It depends what type of dirt you want to remove.. If it has a oil film inside.. I would use a heave duty cleaner.. If it has soap scale and or lime deposits in there like mine had.. I went to the store and bought 2 bottles of "The Works" from the store.. I sprayed the effected spots on the inside.. Waited a 1/2 hour.. And wiped it off.. Then I took the second bottle and poured it in directly into a water filled washer with hot water and ran the washer like I was washing a load of clothing... Be sure to rinse it twice.. Cold water is ok for the second time...

Now It looks like a new machine..

Hi - my Mum told me to add a capful of bleach (problem is, cant remember if to the DRUM or the TRAY! Check with someone!!) Then run on the hottest setting, thatll blam out any soap scum etc. Theres also a cleaner available from Homebase, this you DEF add to the tray and again, run on a very hot wash. HTH! xx

Run your washer full and pour in a coule of cups of bleach, just let it run the cycle, if it is something stuck to it, stop the machine when the water drains and use an SOS pad to scrub it out. Then continue wash.

Mix some soda crystals with hot water. Set the machine on 'quick wash'. Pour the mixture into the dispenser-tray.

Use 1 quart of white vinegar. Run machine for a full cycle or us 2 cups of vinegar on the rinse cycle.

You dont usually need to do you? But if you must, why not just run through a short cycle with nothing inside it except soap?

Try vinegar or bicard soda or milton steralising tablets!! Put on the hottest wash and then pour what ever you want to use. Then do a normal wash using your powder.!! This normally works for me.

12 medium-sized hedgehogs on the wool cycle will bring the drum up nice and shiny. Failing that the other eco-friendly suggestions already posted are the way to go.

You can use Calgone for limescale, but be very careful with household products, things like washing up liquid may seem a safe option but don't use it unless you like your local launderette!
