My friend is 16 and pregnant. She is due in December, and she's having a little girl. Guess what she's naming her? DECEMBRA!!! Yes, I know that's horrible. She's telling everyone as if she's so proud, and they constantly make fun of her, but she still thinks it's a nice name choice. She doesn't know who the father is, and her grandparents (who are raising her) aren't making her look for a job. Her goal is to graduate, and then get on welfare and get a section 8 apartment. How can I convince her to want more out of life, while also convincing her to change her baby's name???!!

Geez, good luck with that! First of all, she has to want more for herself and her child. Once she's living in Section 8, MAYBE she'll find it's not all peaches and cream, and THEN maybe she will want to better herself. Then again, a lot of people are quite content to live in poverty to keep from having to work.
Just stay persistent and keep reminding her that she could be so much more. Maybe eventually, when she grows up a little bit, she will realize you are right.
Regarding the baby's name, phew! I'd be persistent about that TOO!!

First of all that dosen't mean your ghetto. I have alot of ghetto firends and they are not like that. In fact I'm gehtto and have been accepted in the only straight A's school in my county and it also ranked #1 for the best highschool in Florida. OK this is what you do. Tell her that she needs be seroius and that she is not a child anymore. She needs to be a parent foe this child and that welfare aint gonna help. Tell her to do something good in her life at least get a degree. It dosent matter if it takes nine monthes or six years. At least do something. As for the name, i can't help you there that's her child and she can call her child whatever she wants. Mabey she will like Ali-Cia (Ah-lee-See-ah) But ity's whatever. Oh and by the way thats not ghetto. Tha's called a ho.

You cant force her to do anything, she is going to have to live and learn her own mistakes. All you can do is be there for her to fall on when she needs you.
As for the baby's name, try Noelle since she seems to be wanting a December theme...it can go either way, boy/girl.

I'm betting she will be selling herself on the street before long, hooked on crack and foaming at the mouth with five different unpronouncable & incurable STDs. Her baby will be taken from her and placed in foster care and she'll never see her again. She's trash and a loser, and you can't help her. Drop her from your life like a cracked bottle of rat poison and move along.

Oh my! Well, if her mind is made up, there isn't much you can do. Just be there for her as a friend, but she does need support, so don't stop giving it to her. Don't give up on her. :)

be there for her. i watched mi mom go threw labor and ur frend is gonna threw alot of pain so b there 4 and support her even though she wants 2 name her kid a diffrent name!:)
