I'm an accountant. You will only like accounting if you find the right positions & salary. Most accountants i know don't like it and neither do I. If you work for a company it is a repetitive monthly (often boring) routine: lots of pressure to close fin stmts/reports on time and meet numerous deadlines. Often long hours and often rude clients or coworkers.
I know many that became CPA's and still don't like it
If you are successful you can make a lot of money but you may become too busy to enjoy it.
CPA exam is extremely hard but if you did all your homework when you were in college may be passable with some extra effort. If you are still in college the courses get very hard after around the first year.
If you do consulting it may may be more rewarding helping clients solve their problems

I have a friend who is an accountant. She has been a CPA for about 4 years and makes great money. The best income comes from getting into a good accounting firm that promotes from within. She has always told me she loves her job. But I have heard other people say accounting is boring. Check out some career fairs close to you.
Good Luck

Accounting is a good career. You have a list of options. Certified accountant makes good money in accounting. Working for the government will make some money. I would get an MBA in accounting. Good Luck!

Actually my mother-in-law has been an accountant for 23 years and she makes tons of money, but the affects it has had on her family is extreme. She has two children and they were raised by babysitters. And not only is it extremely demanding but it's also stressful. That could be why there is such a high drug use with accountants. So, if you want to make alot of money go for it, you more then likely will. But if you want a family I would say think about babysitting. LOL

Yes. I am a registered nurse and believe me I pay my accountant a looooot of money to do my taxes and keep up with my investments and inheiritance. I am a managing RN for a hospice. I am on call 7 out of 14 nights, I have to travel miles and miles daily, I get called out at all hours of the night when I am on call. When ever I get frustrated I say " If I knew then what I know now, I would have gone to school to be an accountant." If you like numbers and you can stand the long hours during tax season, go for it.

Yes you can make a lot of money, especially as a CPA, Certified Public Accountant. Good CPA's can make upwards of $100,000 annually. You should be good with numbers and be okay sitting behind a desk all day. Accounting can be stressful, but it is a pretty universal profession! You could do it almost anywhere in the world for almost any type of company!!!

Well, my father is an accountant, and he is happy doing it, but he is also very much a workaholic. I'd recommend only going into the field if it truly interests you. It also depends what kind of accounting. There is accounting for accountant firms and accounting for a particular business. I think that accounting firms are much more stressful and time consuming than accounting for a business. As for salery, I'd say they make a fair amount, it depends how high up you are in the business' acoutnign department, the higher the job title, the higher the salery.

Firstly you have to ask yourself if you're good with maths and figures. Are you? Second you have to think about seeing yourself as an accountant. Do you see yourself sitting in an office all day long dealing ONLY with numbers?! Third you have to be sure you can take such a responsability; making a mistake could be fatal!

But no accounting isn't particullary too well payed..it gets you an average sallary; and i know about 5 persons who are accountants...and they are SICK of it!
