What Causes Nosebleeds?
The most common type of nosebleed is an anterior nosebleed. That means it starts at the front part of the nose from one nostril. This happens when the tiny blood vessels that line the inside of your nose break. This can be caused if the vessels are scraped, ripped or irritated from nose picking, from being punched in the nose or from hitting your nose hard on something. Your blood vessels can also break if the lining of your nose gets dried out by really dry air.
Upper septum nose bleeds
Upper septum nose bleeds are much more rare. Bleeding begins high within the nose and blood flows down the back of the mouth and throat even when the person is sitting up or standing. These nose bleeds can be very serious and do require urgent medical attention.
Causes of upper septum nose bleeds
High blood pressure
Disease of the arteries such as atherosclerosis
Side effects of medications and drugs such as aspirin, cocaine
Bleeding disorders
Nasal tumors, cancerous and non-cancerous
Serious trauma such as a displaced broken nose from car crashes, falls etc
Leukemia
Osler-Weber-Rendu syndrome, a hereditary disease where a growth like a birth mark is located in the nose.
Infection
Nose bleeds can occur for no apparent reason.

Incase you were wondering, the medical name for nosebleeds is "epistaxis". Most people on here have given you a pretty good run down. Picking or sticking foreign objects up the nose is the most common reason. Others include alergies, sinus problems, drugs such as cocaine, and trauma to the nose or surrounding areas. :) Hope everyone helped you out.
ps- feel lucky you've never had one! They're no walk in the park.

I would have to say that round house kicks to the face cause more nose bleeds than anything else.
just kidding
But seriously, I think that dry air bursts the small capillaries in the nostrils which causes bleeding.

Fingers. The number one cause is trauma which includes picking.
Aside from that lesser causes are bleeding disorders, medications, cocaine abuse, allergies.
Look the blood vessels in the nose are plentiful and their protection thin. So anything that dries out, cuts, burns, or disupts them will cause bleeding.

Is usually the result of a thin walled vein in the nasal passage.. any blow or even a sneeze can trigger this response. High blood pressure can also be a factor.
