whats an emo could someone please explain?

so many people say differant things im just not sure what i am so please explain cuz please tell me i appolagize for my spelling

i would just like to add after the following answers that i am definatly not an emo but id like to wear strange clothes and quite a bit of black so now tell me what i am PLEASE!!

Also i am not depressed i have a large sense of humour and i am an optomist!!
so what am i ?

An emo is just a nickname people give for 'emotional' people. Somebody who might wear dark clothing, have a poor outlook on life, and/or doesn't talk very much at all may be refered to as one of these. An emo is usually someone who is sad, depressed, or just plain gothic looking. I personally don't understand why people use the phrase 'emo' in the first place: it's just another stereotype.

Emo seems to be the new MTV trend.
Following the style of such bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco and such.
I think it's mostly categorized by the clothing and hair styles. In being broad to explain, the girls usually have short hair and wear thrift clothes, the boys have longer hair and wear tight girls jeans.
Hopefully that makes sense.

Emos are goths, emo meaning emotional, think white skin and lots of black eyeliner, lipstick and nail polish, and thats just the boys....

emo is short for emotion. when relating to music it is a type of music that is kinda mushy,sad, somewhat depressing with a rock vibe.
