a friend of mine recently made gifts that i think i will copy this christmas. she made recipe boxes for wedding gifts. just take plain wooden recipe card boxes and glue fabric, ribbon and other items to decorate then add in recipe cards. you could even write/print some of their favorite recipes or secret family recipes on the cards. it's personal, creative, and cheap. :)

Something that works well I think, is the cookie or brownie mixes where it comes with the flour and sugar and chocolate chips or whatever kind it is where you just add the egg and butter. I've given that to my godmother for a few years now and she likes it. Another thing I'm thinking of this year is already made cookie dough. A friend of mine is selling it for school, so I was thinking of maybe buying a few of them and giving them for gifts. She says the dough will last for about a year if you keep it in the freezer. You don't have to make it all at once.
I'm thinking of buying some for myself too, but it's hard for me to buy something like that because I always make homemade cookies.

Gift baskets always go over well...Try going w/ a theme personalized to the person you're giving it to. For example, if someone's into coffee make a gift basket full of gourmet coffee/hot chocolate. Or relive you're childhood (if you're no longer a child like myself) and fill gift baskets full of toys, candy or other things from the year/decade the person was born...For example, an 80s gift basket could be filled with tie-dyed anything, a CD w/ songs from the 80s, etc. etc.

A few years ago we decided that we were all grown up and had enough "stuff" and didn't really need more. So we decided to give money to charity in our families names. There are many good organizations out there that can use help. Find one that you like and explain to your family that this is the best, most creative, loving gift that you thought they could ever want.

Last year I bought several baskets and went through and filled them with homemade goodies such as biscotti (tucked into a coffee mug), ginger bread, candied spiced walnuts, key lime fudge etc etc. My relatives loved it. They saved their baskets and are asking for a "refill" this year. I liked it because I was able to think of items to make that each member would love and was able to just be creative ! Also, it is definitely a "useable" gift. It was a big hit and I look forward to doing it again this year:)
