Why one percent of the US budget for ONE.org?

Wouldn't this work better if we establish a non-profit to accomplish this? Circumventing the government sounds much better and we'd have a better chance of steering funds to the people that need it the most.

sure would be a great idea, countries are supposed to donate 1% of their gdp to the U.N. Why not add another 1% for the poor, they are part of society afterall and they are the ones who need help more than anyone else. I do not think this would see the light any time soon, with every cent going to the war in iraq etc
