Been half Irish here. The most important day is the 17th of March St Patrick day. Yes Ireland has hosts the special Olympics Ireland 2004. Ireland gained Independent in 1921 from the UK. Ireland is a netural country, with a population of over three and half million people. James Joyce won the Noble prize for Literature. John Philip Holland Inventor of first successful submarine was Irish. Famous actors are: Kenneth Branagh, Pierce Brosnan, Roma Downey, Barry Fitzgerald, Colin Farrell, Richard Harris, Maureen O'Hara Music, The Corrs, U2, The Cranberries. Ireland had two female Presidents Mary Robinson, and the present President Mary McAleese.
Seen the answers above and they haven't a clue about my country opps forgot they never been out of the states lol

I don't think they have had the Olympics. It all depends on if you are the Green or the Orange, the Protestant or Catholic. Each would have an event in their history that is most significant for them.
