I took Zooloft for about 8 months. This really helped. You may be suffering from post pardom depression. Try to get more exercise and enough sleep at night. Also eating healthy definately helps. Lack of sleep is a huge factor though.
If you are breastfeeding the 4 month old, I would try to refrain from taking any antidepressants until you are through breastfeeding. They do enter the babies system and could change the taste of the breastmilk which could make your baby quit nursing.
Finally, don't be ashamed to take something for depression. We all need a bit of help from time to time, besides, your kids need a happy mommy around them.

If you are feeling depressed or experiencing post partum depression, then it may be wise to take a medication. Just because some people think meds are bad and you should "just deal with it", that is not always the case. I am not a doctor, but I am an LPCI, and with my own experience and seeing results from clients I have had, sometimes it is best for someone to get on medication to help them deal with stress, depression, etc. Everyone deals differently. Paxil is an SSRI medication that does help treat anxiety and depression, and works well. I have taken it before. Be aware though that when you are ready to get off of it, you should taper off because it has some pretty rough withdrawal effects if not taken off properly. I know because it happened to me. Effexor is the same way too though from my understanding so I wouldn't choose one over the other.
Also not all meds make you gain weight. I never gained any weight with Paxil or wellbutrin. I do agree with the other post about exercising. Not only will it ensure keeping any weight gain off, it can help you lose weight, gain confidence, and research shows that the mere act of exercise releases endorphins in the brain which makes you be in a happier state of mind. Maybe find a sitter or gym with a daycare for the kids and take a yoga class to clear your mind.

I took paxil before and it sucks. Dont do it, if you're down, then maybe you need some time away from the kids. A four month along with a 4 year old can be a handful. You definately should start exercising because its good for the part of your brain that makes you "depressed". I personally do not believe in taking those types of medicaitons anymore, if you're just "down". Figure out what causes the stress, and move forward. Dont drug yourself up, because it will go from Paxil to sleeping pills to whatever else.

I was prescribed paxil once, and to be honest it was not different from my everyday mood. I do not like taking medications and decided from that point on that if there is depression in my mind then im going to beat it on my own. People can choose to stay on medication which doesnt actually fix problems and makes the pharmecuetical comany rich, or else they can try and fix the problem without just medicating it. They do recommend taking the drug with councelling or else its not really effective, and if you do not feel completely depressed mabye see if you can find cheaper and more holistic ways to better your mood. also just so you are aware effexor can be dangerious because a side effect of that drug is suicide in some people...so that is one id be very care ful with, also on another note, antidepressants actually cause depression and if you research that it will show you to be true. Good luck btw.

Most medicines for depression have negative things that go along with them. You usually gain 10-15 lbs. when on them and I'm sure there are tons more side affects. Do some research on Paxil and see if it sounds like something you shouldn't be taking. If your doctor gave prescribed it for you, it's probably okay though.

Having been on Paxil myself I would say that it is a good anti-depressant. Give it some time to build up in your system and it will do its work quite well. I don't believe the part about the weight gain, that has to do with what you put in your mouth, not the drug itself.

He curiously thought that the income of Paxil outweighed the aptitude disadvantages. Are you dealing with severe melancholy? He could have concept you mandatory greater help. evaluate strongly going back and having a actual consultation with him. tell him what you have got here upon and ask him those questions. he's the only one that is acquainted with for particular.

Paxil is relatively safe, and one of the drugs-of-choice for moms with post partum depression or anxiety.
I've known a number of women who've taken it, and have heard no "bad" from them on it. (I haven't personally taken it, though I was prescribed Zoloft for a while.)
