Ok, I'll try to describe it as best I can. It looks a lot like a box elder bug only a little bigger and without the red markings. Its brownish black with long antennae (feelers?) and it flies. Its found in the Northwest of the U.S. and when you squish it even just a little bit (my puppy did it-he likes bugs) the whole room smells like leaves or plants. I keep finding these ugly things in my house and I'd like to know what they're called. I'll try to download a picture of it that I took yesterday. I just don't know where to post it to. (yes, I'm dumb. Don't remind me, k)

That's it--the picture of the leaf-footed bug looked exactly the ones I've found in my house. You're right, Its part of the hemiptera family! Thank you!

(the wheel bug looked very similar too but it didn't have the thorny looking back)
Thanks for your answers!

Well, it sounds like it is of the order Hemiptera which are the true bugs. Here are a couple of sites with pictures. There are a few that fit your description. I did not see any that referred to the odor smelling like leaves or plants. However, who knows what kind of different odors a stink bug can come up with.

Sounds like a wheel bug. They look very similar to a box elder bug, except are about 2-3 times the size and are grayish-black and have very long antennae. Above the thorax will be a rounded area with spikes sticking out. The wheel bug is very useful for eating other insects like the box elder bug so you really shouldn't kill it if that is what it is. These useful insects give off an odor so birds and animals know not to eat them.
