Barkley is correct in saying that the NBA is going downhill. What he is saying, I think, is that the game has become so over-hyped, and the players so over-glorified that its impossible to live up to.

Yes, the players are more athletic than before, but that's about all they have. They don't have the intelligence or understanding of the basic fundementals, that's why they lose to teams like Greece.

What you have today is the "casual fan". The ones who catch the highlights on ESPN, and see the high flying dunks, and think they know all about basketball. The real educated fans have all but abandoned the game, like back in the 1970's.

What we need is another Bird & Magic.

its true. and its due to the and 1 mix tape. everybody wants to embarass someone all the time, make someone fall, or just dunk on everyone. no one is worried about the basic fundamentals of bball. kobe bryant drops 81 points, everyone wants to be the go to guy and score. too many wanna-be superstars and no role players. just imagine the game if more people played like ben wallace, dwight howard, jason kidd bruce bowen? all these know their role in winning. they are not worried about dunking on the entire opposing team. and what really sucks is the media (ESPN the main culprit) glorifies individuality in basketball. its always one player that makes top 10 plays, even though that team lost by 25.
barkley is right on the money when he says basketball is downhill. from a business point of view, ncaa and nba gross billions of dollars. and 1 started off slow but now is a million dollar industry that highlights the ultimate plays/ players, which is what everyone wants to do. only problem is, u can;t bring that type of game into orangize ball such as high school, ncaa, njcaa. nba once u have made a name for yourself in the nba, its fine. tmac, kobe, iverson, wade, they all can do that because their stars. your average joe schmoe can't try them moves in a serious organized bball game

I like Charles Barkley and he has some good points. Remember this though, 20 yrs ago Charles was the poster boy for bad behavior.

i think its just the generation gap. the way the game is played is so much more different. players are much more athletic collectively than back then. yes you had Dr. J, and the human highlight film, but now you have plenty of those players, in addition to the much taller players with the same amazing athelticism. the game isnt going downhill, to me its just changed. barkley needs to go to sleep for a while lol.

Kobe is large and that i think of Lebron James is extraordinarily unguardable as nicely. Im no longer likely to communicate who's #a million by way of fact they're large of their very own rights. Kobe Bryant is extraordinarily complicated to renounce nevertheless. Lebron and the Cavs are not too undesirable themselves. Im a Bulls fan and that i bear in recommendations the days as quickly as we had Michael Jordan on the floor and that i knew we'd'nt lose

In today's game the fans are obsessed with athletecism and dunking. That's not basketball.

Basketball is about defense, shooting the ball, and passing the ball; fundementals; and that's what's lacking in todays game.

It gets kind of boring to watch 4 guys standing around while one guy tries to go to the basket to dunk.

Barkley is right and at times the NBA is tough to watch the play is so poor.

In my estimation it is because they do not play basketball anymore. It has become a game to shoving and the team that can man handle the other can win. I also think the 3 point shot has ruined the game as there is not much finesse to the game anymore. Finally there is very little teamwork and you usually hve 2-3 players whos egos prevents them from playing as a team.

I think its going down because of David Stern's dress code and the new ball. All his rules make me sick. He just wants to look like he's in control since the Detroit/Indy thing. It also is going down because it takes so long for you team to turnaround from a losing team to a winning one. baseball and football are more fun to watch
