to sarahsmama, Thanks for your concern. I was born in the US. I am in Honors English at my school. English really isn't a problem for me. Im not going to write like a scholar on yahoo answers. I needed an answer directed towards my scarf, not my English skills. I respect the fact that you were not trying to be mean.

I wouldn't hesitate. Others may, depending on what kind of store it is and due to the fact that they may not understand the Muslim religion and the importance of wearing a scarf (like a number of ignorant people whom have responded to your question). At some clothing stores, some employers will hire you if you have a great personality and/or can prove or convince them that you're a good worker, while some are completely into the whole image thing and representing their clothing store a certain way. I've been discriminated against because of my braids so I understand your concern. I would say go for it though. More than anything employers want workers who are intelligent, punctual, those who can boost sales, and are great problem solvers. Good luck with all of your endeavors.

Definitely. The Muslim women that have appeared from time to time in places I have worked had an attitude that they thought they were better than everybody else. So, I guess I am what you call "prejudiced." I know not all Muslim women are like that, but unfortunately I have had a negative experience with the ones in my workplace. I would feel the same way about some Christian fondling a crucifix and telling me I will go to hell for being a nonbeliever. Why not question the whole scarf bit? Do you really believe you are less "holy" without one on? Don't you realize it's a control mechanism imposed on you, not by Allah, but the the misogynists who have brainwashed generation after generation of women? I just don't get it and I suppose I never will. Peace be with you.

Your scarf would not hinder me from hiring you. Your lack of proper English skills just may, however. Take an English as a Second Language course to learn proper speaking and punctuation. I'm not saying this to be mean; I'm saying this to help you on your journey. Good luck!

u mean u wear a parda covering your entire face and body. if so, it could be a problem getting a parttime job in a mall or so where u r in the front end, but if ur scarf just covers ur head and not ur face, then i dont think that will be much of a problem.
if i am ur employer, of course i would'nt mind it, but there are others who would. any way dont loose heart, keep trying till u land on a good job. good luck. QUDA HAFIS.

there are quite some muslimahs who comprehend what's the right clothing yet do no longer adhere to the assumption which basically shows their superficial devotion to that faith. it may be the standard jobs of the mutawwah to enforce the wonderful regulation if there is any. I as quickly as communicate with a fellow muslim brother to remind his sisters/different relatives to no longer positioned on tight setting up clothing and wore a head headband. It in simple terms supplies a bad connotation to the finished muslim community. I reckon you think approximately your self a former muslim as all creatures are born muslims basically the guy choose for what they deviated to.

I know it should not be a problem, but unfortunately I think it will be a hindrance, because of the times and troubles we are living under. Hopefully, for all of us these things will all change for the better someday soon. The above answers are correct and true, but your question is not SHOULD your scarf be a hindrance but, WOULD or will it be a hindrance, and I say unfortunately it will.

It certainly should not be. It might throw some people depending on the job you are looking for because of a dress code but if there is no dress code you should be able to wear your scarf!

I am a Witch, I live in America, I wear my Pentagram, I'm friendly, I am good with people. Is my Pentagram still a hinderence in getting a job? I would have to answer YES, because people are stereo-typing us. Mostly because of their lack of education is areas where they are not familiar with..

On the record and in front of any official board, no, it would not. Off the record, if you are working with people then yes, I would not hire you because of that. If it was even between you and another person I would hire them. Now of course if you were 1000% better then anybody else who came in I would live with it. But all things being equal I would hold that against you.

i am an employer and i really could not care what you look like or how you dress. if you're clean and presentable and know the skills to do the job i would hire you. of course you would have to be the best candidate.
