which one does your computer use? this is mostly a hypethetical situation, but if you have a cable modem hooked directly to your computer, then you have your wireless card connected to a neighbors router, which one does it use?

It uses both, but it will not make it faster. This can cause problems with the computer. It is best to disable one so they both are not operational.

By default if you are hardwired (Cat5 or Cat6 wire) Windows will automatically detect the connection and use it, if you have a wireless card and are using XP, it will tell you if it has detected a network and the signal strength but you wil have to manually tell Windows to connect to it.
