Maybe because they deserve to be attacked by aliens

I know what you mean by that the book "War of the Worlds" was about Aliens (in the book, they are called Martians) attacking Britain, not America, so why always do the aliens attack the United States?

Still, its down to powers fighting each other I think, aliens (possibly) are a galactic power, America is a world superpower. That's my view on it!

Maybe it's because the movies are made in hollywood:):).
Those foreign movies I've seen show the aliens attacking the countries where they are made.
The movie "world of The World" made in Britian shiow the aliens attacking Britian. The one made in America show the aliens attacking America, The pictures made in Japan show aleins attacking Japan:), need I say more\.

Because Hollywood is in the USA. If you ever watch a foreign alien film, they attack whatever the major cities in that country is. It adds appeal and familiarity to the location for the crowd.

Why do rampaging monsters a la Godzilla always attack Tokyo, Japan?

I think it has to do with the audience. Americans have trouble relating to alien invasion movies set in other countries. Japanese audiences have trouble relating to rampaging monster movies set in another country. The director wants the targeted audience (in the case of your question, Americans) to get emotionally and mentally involved with the movie.

Or maybe it is because the movie is made in Hollywood, like Godzilla attacks Japan because that is where the movie is made.

It's so they can show Americans as being the saviours of the world.

It's the same with war films, Americans win battles that there weren't even Americans fighting in.

Hell even British classics like War of The Worlds have to be destroyed by them moving it to America.

Hhe-he! Movies are made here, by us. And we have a stong military to fight them and a lot of landmarks like the Statue of Liberty which it fun to watch the Aliens zap.
