Mark Foley : Republican Florida Sixteenth District. Resigned after trying to solicit sex from male congressional pages via an instantmessenger program. The conversations included his asking a sixteen-year-old "stud" whether his penis was erect and requesting that he take out and measure his penis. The cover-up involved Republican House Majority Leader John Boehner.

Karl Rove,Deputy Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush, called Evangelicals 'nuts', 'ridiculous' and 'out of control' but considered them politically invaluable.

“National Christian leaders received hugs and smiles in person at the White House -and then were dismissed behind their backs and described as ‘ridiculous,’ ‘out of control,’ and just plain ‘goofy,’”

White House political affairs director Ken Mehlman knowingly participated in a scheme to use the office, and taxpayer funds, to mount ostensibly “nonpartisan” events that were, in reality, designed with the intent stealing religious voters.

People in glass houses...I take it you've never heard of Gerry Studds?

Studds was first elected in 1972 and represented Cape Cod and the Islands, New Bedford, and the South Shore for 12 Congressional terms. He retired from Congress in 1997.

In 1983, Studds acknowledged his homosexuality after the page revealed he'd had a relationship with Studds a decade earlier, when the page was 17. Studds was censured for sexual misconduct by the House, then went home to his constituents to answer questions in a series of public meetings and interviews with the press.

Studds defended the relationship as a consensual relationship with a young adult. The page later appeared publicly with Studds in support of him. The scandal recently resurfaced when former Republican Rep. Mark Foley resigned after exchanging sexually explicit instant messages with a page. Republicans accused Democrats of hypocrisy for savaging Foley, but saying little about Studds at that time.

Hara said Studds was never ashamed of the relationship with the page.

"This young man knew what he was doing," Hara said. "He was at (Studds') side."

Liberals Reflect Fondly On A Dead Rapist, Gerry Studds (D-MA)
by Oak Leaf on 10-15-06 @ 11:50 am Filed under News

Yesterday, CNN had a glowing headline on the death of “former U.S. Representative” Gerry Studds with the headline“First openly gay person elected to Congress.”

Today, Google News, has 426 plus “fond memories” including “Gerry Studds; Gay Pioneer in Congress” by the Washington Post where they call rape “sexual misconduct” or National Public Radio with “Rep. Studds, a Congressional Pioneer, Dead at 69.”

Remember, unlike disgusting Foley who simply sent “lewd” instant messages, Studds “plied the 17-year-old boy with alcohol before initiating sex and unsuccessfully solicited sex from two other male pages.”

And don't even cry about explotation for votes. The Dems have ensured their voter base by...oh, forget it.

There are a few other issues out there that you should be thinking about when you vote, like national security, strength of the economy, reduction of the national debt, etc. But if there's only room in your mind for one issue, and you're going to base your vote on that, I thank God that you only have one vote!!
