What kind of metal is it and how do I clean it without harming the stones?

That sounds like copper to me honey...bit of Brasso maybe?

If it is turning green it contains a lot of copper, so it is probably a brass of sorts. It wouldn't be copper by itself if it was goldish.

Brass polish should do the trick.

It could be fake gold and if you wear it against your skin it will turn green. The chemicals in the material and the oil on the skin do that.

Or it could be copper.

i think is copper...i dont think the coloring is irreversible either!
