distraction. First, humans tend to fear the unknown or unfamiliar. Second, racism and most of society's ills are distractions to keep the majority working class and poor from revolting against a tyrranical, corrupt and inept USG, full of elitist rich people who supposedly "represent" the masses. Finally, as we are humans, and I live in America, then you are free to speak your mind, with very few exceptions....at least until 2000.

It is something people do who are aware that they have no class but won't admit it. Name calling lets them fool themselves into a feeling of superiority. Names like "white trash", ""goofy evangelical", "*****", "Liberal", "Fundy", "Neocon-queer" and the really nasty ones, the racial slurs.
